Filming Diary Day 1

On our first day of filming we decided that it would be best to film the scene at Levani’s house. The reason why we filmed here first was because we all decided it was appropriate. As this was the first day of recording we were still getting used to using the Canon XM2. The first time we recorded the format was in 4:9 but we wanted our film to be in the format of 16:9, the reason why we wanted to use 16:9 is because it’s the most up to date format. The next technical issue we were having was learning about the sensitivity of the microphone. We had to test out how close the microphone had to be to a source of sound that we wanted to record. This also allowed us to learn about the spectrum of the volume.
As this was our first time recording for our production it took us quite long to film the first scene due to getting used to the equipment. What also took us long to record the scene, was by rewinding the recording each time to check what we had done, this had took a lot of time.
A shot that we used and believe worked successfully was a close of Levani’s face, the rationale behind this was because we believe that a close-up of a face shows their facial expressions and how they may be feeling, it also allows the viewer to feel close to the character.

For the section on Mise-en-Scene, we had to add toiletries into the bathroom scene to create a sense of verisimilitude. We gathered the items that we needed from the nearest supermarket. By having these items in the scene it allows the audience to feel related towards the production. To pay for these props we all contributed which shows a sense of teamwork.
For our first day it allowed to us to test the camera shots that were going to be suitable for our sequence. We decided to use the tripod as it allowed us to create shots which were steady.

Overall as I believe that our first day of filming went really well, we knew what we wanted in the scene and went straight for it. We worked really well and communicated with each other as good team members.
